Orientation Camp 2012

Past Events

Graduation Party

This year, we had the first batch of graduates. We had this party to celebrate this milestone for them and EVMT. In this party, we had a theme which is “Back to 70s-80s”. All of us wore the vintage clothes with a lot of fun.

The Third Inauguration Ceremony

It was a wonderful evening for the newly elected cabinet, The Ark. More than 60 guests attended to congratulate the success of the new cabinet of Environment Students’ Society, including representatives from students’ societies, professors, and industry professionals. Led by the new President of EVSS, Tommy Tong, the executive members took their oath under the witnesses of the audience. A simple but solemn handover ceremony represented the official commencement of The Ark, and also marked the end of Odyssey.

Orientation Camp

Time flies, one academic year has passed, which mean the new one is coming. To welcome the freshmen of HKUST as well as EVMT, the second orientation camp organized by EVSS has been held from 8th - 10th August, 2012. Through various activities, freshmen got familiarized with HKUST campus and culture, and also the culture of EVSS. To differentiate EVSS from other societies, we brought the 'warm' feeling to all freshmen. Also, through the camp theme, the Easter Island, we spread the message of sustainability, which is one of the main objectives of EVSS. Orientation Camp was fulfilled with simley faces. It was believed that all of us had a great time!

Semester Kick-off BBQ

More than 50 students enjoyed a nice evening at Sai Kung Country Park, to have our semester kick-off BBQ. It was joyful, and Green! We used environmental charcoal with less ash, recycled metal cans and reused forks for later use. It was nice to talk with people from different backgrounds, as some of the participants were AL and DSE Year 1 students. Hope all our members would have a great and fabulous academic year!

Mentoring Program - Cocktail Party

The Environment Students' Society Mentoring Programme is officially underway! On October 22, the cocktail party was held, where mentors, mentees and professors alike were able to meet and talk for the night at the Penthouse Sky Lounge. With over 70 participants, the cocktail party was a huge success, fully embracing the Mentoring Programme spirit in achieving an open line of communication between mentors and mentees. This event marks the beginning of many fruitful relationships, with mentors embracing and guiding the new generation and mentees learning about what their future might hold working in the environmental sector.

Winter Camp - 生太型!

Around 30 Year 1 students have spent their first winter break in our camp, to make their long vacation more meaningful. Through various activities of camp, participants have learnt about the all-round application of the sustainability concept. We had visited Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park and Long Valley. While enjoying gorgeous natural views, the harmonious way of human living with the nature was brought out. Besides, throughout games and discussions, participants have experienced the balance between stakeholders in environmental issues. It was believed that the participants had brought away joyful memory, and the understanding of sustainability.

Annual Dinner of Session 2012-2013

Towards nearly the end of the session for Odyssey, the last event – Annual Dinner 2013 was organized on 27th Feb at UC Bistro. We have invited around 30 guests and 50 members to share the joy of achievement of EVSS together as well as introducing the elected cabinet of EVSS, session 2013-2014 - the Ark! Besides, in order to align with our society’s nature, we also prepared a low carbon menu that was without lamb and beef to reduce our carbon food print. Last but not least, we are very pleased to have AECOM, Agile, ATAL, Kimberly-clark to be our diamond sponsors, AAHK to be our platinum sponsor and Melanie Kwok for her generous donation. Thank you all of your support and we hope you all can continue to support EVSS in the future!
