The 20th Inauguration Ceremony

The Inauguration Ceremony of ESS is successfully held on 20th April. The theme of the Inauguration Ceremony is "Sparkle of Spars Axis of Stars", we, who are the spars sharpened when we encounter obstacles and hardships with growing glitters, would ultimately become the shiniest center of the galaxy. It also means all business students keep equipping and preparing themselves to strive for success and become the most crucial part, “the axis among stars”, in the challenging business world.

GalaXXy

The nominated cabinet received a number of valid votes from more than one-fourth of the full members of ESS, exceeding the minimum requirement for an effective polling; and the number of votes for the nominated cabinet exceeded the number against. As no further complaints were received, the cabinet "GalaXXy" has been elected as the Executive Committee of The Economics Students'Society, HKUSTSU, Session 2011-2012.

- Sub-Committee members recruitment

The Sub-Committee Recruitment is an interactive process for the Executive Committee to know more about the freshmen, so as to arrange them into Sub-Committee member could be a life-changing experience in the university life because freshmen would get to cooperate with the other members and the Executive Committee. Throughout the course of organizing the functions, freshmen would be able to excel at event management skills.

- Economics Festival (Sub-Committee Function)

The Economics Festival, which consists of the Society Gathering and Faculty Gathering, is an event which strengthens the importance of us and makes us unique from other societies.

The Society Gathering is an entertaining event for all our members. It is the time to share an enjoyable moment and relief their stress and tension in the HKUST.

The Faculty Gathering is a rather formal event for our members and the Department of Economics. It aims to enhance the bond between us.

The Mentoring Programme is the combination of different workshops, firm visit and a formal gathering.

The workshops, like professional styling, personal image and presentation skills workshop, will be provided to all participants to improve their social and communication skills. In addition, firm visits will be held in three reputable and successful companies to give all participants a real experience about the daily operation and management of a successful business.

The formal mentoring gathering, which is the most important function of the Mentoring Programme, will be held to provide a great opportunity for both mentors and mentees to interact with each other. Through the interaction with experienced mentors, our mentees would gain invaluable advice and guidance from them.

We believe that all participants in this Mentoring Programme, under the supervision and guidance of our renowned and experienced mentors in different business fields, would further develop their interpersonal and communication skills, which are keys to success in this competitive business world.

The Annual Journal is a year book and a prominent written means of communication from the society to the university, professors, business professionals and our members. It is an opportunity for our editors to enlighten the readers with an in-depth discussion of hot issues in the featured articles. It is an official channel where interviews and essays of professors, advisors and business elites are published.

- Sports team recruitment

The Intramural Sports include soccer, basketball and badminton, Athletic Meet, Aquatic Meet and Campus Run for our members to showcase their skills. Our society has always excelled in recent years. Last year we ranked 1st against all Business departmental societies and were crowned champions for Intramural football competitions. Apart from these successes, through participating in such events, the unity and friendship of our members are well enhanced.

The Old Book Sale is held at the beginning of each semester. We represent a non-profit making middleman to sell the books to students who need them.
