Dr. Lee
graduated from Department of Bio-Industrial Mechatronics Engineering (formerly Department of Agricultural Machinery Engineering), National Taiwan University (NTU), Taiwan with honor, and then obtained MS degree in Institute of Applied Mechanics, NTU.  After completing two-year military service in Taiwan, he went to the United State and obtained Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering with Microelectromechanical System (MEMS) major from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was an assistant professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering from 2001 to 2007. Since 2007, he is Associate Professor and the Associate Director of Institute of Integrated Microsystems (I2MS), Co-Director of KAUST-HKUST Micro/Nanofluidics Laboratory, Associate Director of Center for Bioengineering & Biomedical Devices. He is also Faculty Affiliate in the Division of Biomedical Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong. In addition, he is a Visiting Associate in Caltech Micromachining Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, USA.  He was the co-founder of IEEE NEMS (Annual IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems), sponsored by the IEEE Nanotechnology Council in 2006.  He was the member of Editorial Board of Sensors  (Insciences Publisher, Switzerland) in 2011. Currently, he is the member of the Editor Boards of (1) The Scientific World Journal, Mechanical Engineering subject area, Hindawi Publishing Corporation, (2) Micronanoelectronic Technology, China (ISSN 1671-4776). He is also the President, Hong Kong Society The Hong Kong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (HKSTAM) since 2014.

  • Bio-Microelectromechanical System (Bio-MEMS) and Lab-on-a-chip for Internet of Things (IoT): micro chaotic mixing, micro/nano electroporation chips, micro/nano electrokinetics (electroosmosis and electrophoresis)
  • Micromechanics and Nanomechanics 
  • NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical System) and Nanobiotechnology:  branch of Nanotechnology
  • MEMS key technology development: ICP Deep RIE process modeling and optimization using Design of Experiments.
  • Micro inertial sensors: integrated accelerometers, micro gyroscopes.
