Memorandum


1. General Provisions

1.1 This organization is called the International Committee for Abrasive Technology and hereinafter referred to as ICAT.
1.2 ICAT forms the secretariat at the Japan Society for Abrasive Technology.

2. Objectives and Enterprise

2.1 With the annual convention of the International Symposium on Advances in Abrasive Technology (ISAAT), closer ties are being formed with international research institutions. Also, the numbers of ISAAT participants and participating countries are growing every year, increasing the international nature of the event in both name and substance. In response to the globalization of ISAAT, ICAT is being formed as a non-profit organization to encourage researchers and engineers from countries involved in advanced processing technologies, especially abrasive technologies, to discuss issues pertaining to the organization of ISAAT and the promotion of international exchange activities.
2.2 ICAT conducts the following matters in order to achieve the above objectives.
1) Decision regarding the host country and the location of ISAAT
2) Decision regarding the chair person of the local organizing committee of ISAAT
3) Announcement of call for papers for ISAAT
4) Paper review, editing and publication of conference proceedings
5) Other enterprises necessary to achieve the above objectives

3. Membership

3.1 ICAT members shall consist of founding members and active members.
3.2 Founding members shall be individuals who have contributed to the formation of ICAT. These members are listed under item 6 (Supplement).
3.3 Active members shall be individuals who have contributed to the organization of ISAAT. Contributions may consist of service on the executive committee, on the international program committee, or as a guest speaker, or contributions to the internationalization and development of ISAAT.
3.4 Active members shall be individuals recommended by the ICAT chairperson or other ICAT member, and approved by the ICAT assembly.
3.5 There shall be no term limit on the memberships of either founding or active members, but an individual's membership may be terminated at that individual's request.
3.6 An ICAT member who does not attend the ISAAT for three consecutive times may be advised that his or her name will be removed from the membership.

4. The Constitution

4.1 ICAT shall have one chairperson, two vice chairpersons, and one secretariat.
4.2 These members form the board of ICAT.
4.3 Board members shall be selected from among ICAT members and approved by the ICAT assembly.
4.4 Board members shall serve a term of four years, and shall not be prohibited from renomination.

5. Meeting

5.1 The ICAT assembly shall be convened when ISAAT is held.
5.2 The ICAT assembly shall be comprised of all ISAAT participants.
5.3 The ICAT assembly shall discuss the approval or rejection of the following matters:
1) Composition of board members
2) The joining and retirement of board members
3) The venue and date of the next ISAAT
